Victim Impact Panel
D.A. Donovan brings MADD "Victim Impact Panel" to Staten Island - which requires first-time convicted DWI and DUI offenders attend a program that puts them face-to-face with the families of victims killed by drunken drivers. So far, 34 DWI offenders have been required to attend the first VIP session on Oct. 19, where they will listen to Annadale residents Marian and Charles Edkins talk about how their lives were changed when a drunk driver killed their 18-year-old daughter, Marianna, on Jan. 10, 2006. "I believe it will compel some people to stop and think about the possible tragic consequences of their actions,' Donovan told reporters:

"A partner in fighting crime"
D.A. Donovan is endorsed for re-election by every major law enforcement union. Law enforcement leaders call Donovan "a partner in fighting crime" and say he has "earned" their backing by working with them to keep Staten Island the safest community of its size in America:

Gun Buy Back
D.A. Donovan, the NYPD and City Councilman Vincent Ignizio take 164 guns off the street in Island's second Gun Buy Back. The successful program netted over 500 firearms - the vast majority illegal handguns - since it was started as a joint venture between D.A. Donovan and the NYPD on Staten Island three years ago: http://www.silive.com/news/index.ssf/2011/09/nypd_collects_164_guns_at_stat.html

And then receives praise for taking dangerous weapons off the street without putting law enforcement personnel in harm's way:
